Togo - Agribusiness - Public-Private Partnerships

Young entrepreneurs have increasingly focused on high-potential sectors such as pineapple, beekeeping, aquaculture, shea, sesame, soy, mushrooms, fonio, and vegetables. Togo's ranking as the leading country in the subregion and second in Africa in terms of exporting organic products to Europe is a tangible result.

These incentives have also facilitated the establishment by national investors and economic operators of new agri-food processing structures such as the Sokodé soybean oil processing plant with a total cost of 193 million FCFA and the Jus Délice SA agri-food processing plant in Tsévié, financed to the tune of 2 billion FCFA. New support for the private sector is the commissioning of the Adétikopé Industrial Platform (PIA) resulting from the partnership between Togo and Arise IIP, a joint venture between Africa Finance Corporation and the OLAM group, the agri-food giant. The complex offers investors a framework for the establishment of local industrial processing units and the export of cash crops such as cotton, cashew nuts, soybeans, rice and sesame.

A vast agro-industrial development project called “Africa Europa Farm” will begin in the Mono River valley and in two localities: Afagnan and Aklakou.

A land acquisition agreement was signed in June 2021 in Afagnan, 80 km east of Lomé, between the project's eponymous company and local authorities in the presence of a large government delegation. The project, estimated to cost €55 million (36 billion FCFA), aims to produce, process, and market rice and corn on more than 4,000 hectares in the Mono River Valley. The first phase is planned, along with a social component, which should create 250 jobs to reduce unemployment in the locality. The implementation of this project in Togo consolidates the government's efforts in the agricultural sector, a true lever of the national economy.
